Baseball Roundup: Young Leads Third-ranked City High Past Clinton in Substate Opener

Talon Young tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Class 4A third-ranked City High to a 9-0 win over Clinton on Friday in a 4A, Substate 7 quarterfinal at Mercer Park in Iowa City.
City High improved to 32-7 with the win and will host the winner of Monday’s Substate 7 semifinal between West High (19-21) and Davenport Central (24-13) in the substate title game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Clinton closed the season 5-27.
Young allowed just four hits and two walks in the in the complete-game victory, striking out six and throwing just 82 pitches.
Jaxton Schroeder went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead City High while Jake Mitchell doubled, drove in two runs and scored a run for the Little Hawks.
Max Waldschmidt and Kael Kurtz each had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run and Drake Obermueller and Owen Hicks each had a hit and scored a run for City High.
