One of the top quarterbacks in the state has locked in his football future.
West High senior Jack Wallace announced his commitment to Division II powerhouse Minnesota State over the weekend with a post on social media.
“After much consideration I am excited to be committed to Minnesota State University,” Wallace wrote on X. “Thank you to my teachers, coaches, parents and grandparents for all of their support. Go Mavs.”
Already a three-year starter for the Trojans Wallace has been among the most prolific passing quarterbacks in the state the past three seasons.
In three varsity seasons Wallace has passed for 4,390 yards and needs 870 yards to break the West High career passing record held by Marcus Morgan.
Wallace already holds the single-game passing record throwing for 458 yards against Cedar Rapids Prairie in the season finale last October.
A two-time first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference selection and two-time member of the Your Prep Sports all-area team, Wallace has seen his production increase each season behind center.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Wallace passed for a career-high 1,807 yards last fall as a junior while completing 57 percent of his passes to help West High to a 4-5 record.
Wallace has thrown for 35 touchdowns in three seasons and has also rushed for 220 yards and eight touchdowns, including a carer-best six rushing scores last season.
West High will open the season on August 30 at Liberty High.
Minnesota State went 9-3 last season falling to Augustana in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
The Mavericks have won 10 or more games seven times in the past 10 seasons finishing as national runner-up in 2019 and 2014.
