City High will open the season on Monday a ranked team.

The Little Hawks were third in the pre-season Class 4A rankings released by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association on Monday trailing only top-ranked Ankeny Centennial and second-ranked Johnston in the initial 4A rankings.

City High went 30-8 and reached the Class 4A state tournament last summer.

Solon is among the other teams mentioned in Class 3A and is the only other area team in the rankings.

Other top-ranked teams in the pre-season rankings are Western Dubuque in Class 3A, Underwood in Class 2A and Coon Rapids-Bayard in Class 1A.
