Track and Field Roundup: Pierce, Hamann Lead West Branch at Class 2A State Qualifier

The West Branch boys and girls track teams each crowned a champion on Thursday at the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Tipton City Park in Tipton.
West Branch junior Alyssa Pierce won the shot put and broke her own school record to highlight three automatic state qualifying entries for the West Branch girls.
Pierce won the shot put with a school-record toss of 41-1 ¾ and joined freshman Grace Hamann as automatic individual state qualifiers for the Bears.
Hamann earned a spot at state with a runner-up finish in the 1,500 in a time of 5:00.08.
Hamann also anchored the Bears’ distance medley relay team to a runner-up finish as West Branch finished ninth at the 12-team meet with 54.3 points.
The West Branch distance medley team of Addi Schultes, Kennedy Simpson, Lexi Skay and Hamann finished runner-up in a time of 4:23.2.
The West Branch boys had a pair of automatic qualifiers highlighted by Auron Marsh who won the long jump with a leap of 20-5.
The distance medley team of Conner Capper, Brandon Pedersen, Lincoln Naber and Joe Hamann finished runner-up to Tipton in a time of 3:38.85.
West Branch was ninth in the boys team standings with 49 points.
