West High, City High Send Players To State Tennis Tournament With Top-Two District Finishes

West High and City High will be have players at the state tennis tournament later this month in Iowa City.
Both teams had players secure spots at the Class 2A individual state tournament scheduled for May 21-22 at Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center in Iowa City with top-two finishes at district meets on Wednesday.
West High secured a pair of entries at the state meet as the senior doubles team of Parker Selby and Samir Singh claimed the district title and junior Anthony Medina finished runner-up in singles.
City High junior Abhay Anil won the singles title at the Norwalk district to secure his spot in the singles tournament at the state meet.
Anil defeated Ankeny junior Dylan Victor in straight sets in the championship match.
Selby and Singh went 3-0 on Wednesday to secure the district title.
The second seeds in the doubles bracket at the West High district, Selby and Singh defeated the Bettendorf tandem of Truman Brooks and Ethan Herring in the quarterfinals and defeated the Marion team of Jackson Anderson and Garret Baxa 6-1, 7-5 in the semifinals.
Singh and Selby downed the top-seeded Bettendorf team of Noah Gehler and Robert Matera 6-2, 6-4 in the district championship.
Medina secured a state tournament spot with a runner-up singles finishing, falling to Cedar Rapids Jefferson freshman Parker Holland 6-1, 6-2 in the title match.
Medina defeated George Trovas of Cedar Rapids Kennedy 6-0, 6-0 and Carson Ziegler of Burlington 6-1, 6-1 to reach the title match.
