Solon moved one step closer to a return to the state golf meet on Wednesday advancing to the Class 3A District meet with a runner-up finish at the 3A sectional at Pin Oak Pub and Links in Manchester.

The Spartans had three golfers finish in the top five while posting a 309 to finish two strokes behind Marion which won the team title with a 307 behind a 68 from individual medalist Lawson Berndt.

Brennan Heesch shot a 75 and finished runner-up to lead the Spartans while Isaiah Zoske was third with a 75 and Jack McCarty was one stroke back in fourth place with a 76.

Gehrig Turner shot an 83 for Solon as the Spartans advanced to the 3A district meet May 13 at 10 a.m. at Waverly Municipal Golf Course.
