West High Wins Second Consecutive Drake Relays Distance Medley Relay Title

A year ago West High won its first ever Drake Relays title in the distance medley.
On Friday the same four Trojans made it two titles in as many tries.
West High claimed its second straight Drake Relays distance medley relay title on Friday as the team of Todd Rent, Izaiah Loveless, Aidan Jacobsen and Moustafa Tiea won in 3:27.83 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The Trojans were nearly half a second faster than runner-up Ankeny which entered with the fastest qualifying time but finished second in 3:28.32.
Last season Rent, Loveless, Jacobsen and Tiea won in a time of 3:26.67.
The foursome made it two straight on Friday on what was another strong day for the Trojan relay teams at Drake Stadium.
West High added a fourth-place finish in the 4×200 on Friday as Rent, Jacobsen, Loveless and Julian Manson finished in 1:27.72.
ADM won the 4×200 in a time of 1:27.34 followed by Harlan in 1:27.52 and Ankeny Centennial in 1:27.6.
It was a second consecutive top-four finish in the 4×200 for West High which was runner-up last season in the event.
Loveless added an 11th place finish in the 100 for West High in a time of 11.2 and Tiea finished 16th in the 800 in 2:02.77.
Aren Schlemee of Clear Creek Amana placed 13th in the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.97 and Marcus Richard of Solon was 20th in the shot put with a toss of 45-10 ¼.
City High finished 15th in the 4×200 relay and Liberty High was 10th in the distance medley relay.
City High sophomore Rachel Haack made an impressive Drake Relays debut placing fifth in the discus with a toss of 135-7.
Charlee Morton of Hampton-Dumont-Cal won the discus title with a mark of 141-2 while Pleasant Valley senior Reese Goodlet was runner-up with a throw f 140-9.
Haack was one of only five throwers to go over 135 feet on Friday.
Liberty High sophomore Alexi Thigpen finished sixth in the long jump on Friday with a leap of 16-8 ¾.
Clear Lake junior Reese Brownlee won the long jump with a jump of 18-3 ¾ while Jaida Bell of Johnston was second at 17-4 ¼ and Kiya James of Des Moines East was third at 17-0 ¼.
Solon senior Gracie Federspiel posted a pair of top-15 finishes on Friday placing ninth in the 800 in a time of 2:16.89 and adding a 13th place finish in the 400 in 58.36.
Aly Stahle finished 15th in the 100 hurdles for the Spartans in 15.78 and Mia Duckett was 28th in the 100 in 13.1.
West High’s Sophia Olivo finished 12th in the 100 hurdles in a time of 15.63 and City High’s Sierra Pruessner was 24th in a time of 16.18.
Solon finished 12th in the 4×200 and the Sprint Medley relays and Liberty High was 15th in the 4×200 and 15th in the sprint medley.
