Solon opened the season by winning the team title at the Mount Vernon Relays on Thursday in Mount Vernon.

The Spartans won five relays and got individual titles from Ben Kampman in the discus and Kaden Hoeper in the high jump while racking up 129 points to finish 10 in front of runner-up Lisbon.

Clear Creek Amana was third with 95 points while West Branch was eighth with 14 points.

Solon won titles in 4×200, 4×400, 4×800, distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays.

Kampman won the discus with a mark of 164-7 and Hoeper cleared 6-2 to win the high jump for Solon.

The Spartans got individual runner-up finishes from Rhett Mesch in the 200, Grant Bumsted in the 800 and Spencer Michels in the 3,200.

Clear Creek Amana was led by Aren Schlemme who won the 110 hurdles in 15.13 and added a runner-up finish in the long jump.

Landon Prince was runner-up in the discus with a mark of 156-2 while Isaac Sorensen was runner-up in the 1,600 and Thomas Stiltner was runner-up in the 400 hurdles for the Clippers.
