Almuni Report: West High Graduate Avila Earns All-American Honors at NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship

Jannell Avila
Former West High standout and current Baker University freshman Jannell Avila earned all-American status at the NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship last weekend in Jamestown, North Dakota.
In her first collegiate season Avila finished seventh nationally at 191 pounds going 3-2 at the National Championships.
Avila was 23-7 on the season including a runner-up finish at the Heart of America Conference meet.
Cade Obermueller
City High graduate and current Iowa sophomore pitcher Cade Obermueller was named Big 10 Pitcher of the week on Tuesday.
The left-handed throwing Obermueller took a no-hitter into the sixth inning against Jacksonville State on Saturday night finishing with a career-high nine strikeouts and just two hits allowing in a career-best 5 2/3 innings pitched while earning the win.
On the season Obermueller has a 2.77 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .146 batting average with 17 strikeouts in 13 innings.
Masen Miller
Former Regina standout and current Indiana State junior guard Masen Miller was named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Elite 17 Award following the conference tournament final on Sunday in St. Louis.
The Elite 17 award recognizes the athlete that has posted the highest achievement in both athletic and academic excellence.
A finance major, Miller owns a 3.971 GPA and appeared in 27 games this season for the Sycamores who are 28-6 this season, won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title and finished runner-up at the MVC tournament on Sunday.
