A brilliant prep career for Holden Arnaman came to an end last month.
On Tuesday the West Branch senior point guard added yet another accolade to a growing list of achievements.
Arnaman was named first-team all-state by the Iowa Prints Sports Writers Association on Tuesday when the organization released its postseason basketball honors.
It was the first time Arnaman had earned first-team honors after landing on the Class 2A second-team last season as a junior.
Arnaman joins Solon senior Jake Benzing and West High junior Jack McCaffery as area players named to an IPSWA all-state team this season.
The 6-foot-3 Arnaman was among the most productive players in the state this season ranking seventh in Class 2A in scoring (23.7) and 29th in 2A in assists (4.5)
Arnaman joined Estherville-Lincoln Central senior Owen Larson who was also a first-team all-state pick as the only players in 2A to average better than 23 points and 4.5 assists per game this season.
A Minnesota State recruit, Arnaman shot 51 percent from the field including an impressive 46 percent from 3-point range (84-of-182) to go with 71 percent from the free throw line.
Arnaman also averaged 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while helping West Branch to a 17-7 record and a River Valley Conference South Division title.
Benzing was a second-team all-state pick in Class 3A for the second consecutive season after a strong senior year in which he helped Solon to a 21-2 record.
The 6-foot-3 Benzing averaged a team-high 17.4 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field including 38 percent (53-of-139) from beyond the three-point arc.
Benzing also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
McCaffery earned all-state honors for the first time, landing on the Class 4A second team.
The 6-foot-8 junior led West High in scoring (16.2), rebounding (6.7), assists (3.5) and blocked shots (1.9) while helping the Trojans to a 19-4 record and a spot in a Class 4A substate final.
McCaffery shot 49 percent from the field, including 32 percent (31-of-96) from 3-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line.
