Girls Basketball Roundup: West High Can’t Keep Pace With Fourth-ranked Waukee in Regional Final

Fourth-ranked Waukee used a 28-point third quarter to pull away from West High on its way to a 83-58 win over the Trojans in the Class 5A, Region 4 title game on Tuesday in Waukee.
Waukee improved to 18-4 on the season and advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 2021.
Waukee will face Ankeny Centennial (14-8) in a 5A quarterfinal on Monday at 11:45 a.m. at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
West High had a four-game winning streak end with the loss and closed the season 13-10.
Waukee made 14 3-pointers in the win and had seven different players make a 3-pointer.
Four Warriors had multiple 3-pointers led by sophomore Maryne Szalo who was 4-of-5 from beyond the 3-point line and led four Waukee players in double figures with 24 points.
Sophia Hope had 15 points and eight rebounds, Kirsten Hauck had 15 points and eight assists and Emilie Sorensen had 15 points, six rebounds and two assists for the Warriors.
