City High, West High and Liberty High Crown Champions at Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament

City High crowned three champions and West High had two individual champs as both team posted top-five finishes at the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament on Saturday at Dubuque Senior High School.
Cale Seaton, Kael Kurtz and Kael Voinovich all won individual titles for City High as the Little Hawks placed fourth at the 15-team conference meet with 173 points.
West High got titles from Alexander Pierce and Justin Avila and had seven top-three finishes while placing third as a team with 191 points.
Cedar Rapids Prairie won the team title with 201.5 points while Linn-Mar was runner-up with 194.
Liberty High got a title from senior Vincenzo Lima and placed ninth as a team with 88 points.
Top-ranked Pierce (29-1) won the 113-pound title, capping a 3-0 day with an 11-3 major decision over eighth-ranked Landon Gottschalk of Dubuque Hempstead in the title match.
Fourth-ranked Avila (29-3) won the 150-pound title going 4-0 with two pins and a 20-5 tech fall of Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Cale Smithhart in the championship match.
Charles Barnhouse (22-11) finished third at 106 pounds, Matthew Tran (24-8) was third at 120, Campbell Janis (16-14) was third at 138, Sterling Warren (15-5) was third at 165 and Kyler Scranton (30-5) finished third at 175 pounds for West High.
Braden Doyle placed fourth at 144 pounds, Ashton Honore was fifth at 285 pounds and Serafim Surguladze was eighth at 215 pounds.
Top-ranked Seaton (25-0) won the 132-pound title for City High with a tech fall and two wins by fall including a second-period pin of No. 11 Tyler Lee of Cedar Rapids Prairie in the title match.
Third-ranked Kurtz (19-3) pinned his way to the 138-pound title, posting a second-period pin of Aiden Kirk of Cedar Rapids Prairie in the title match.
Top-ranked Voinovich (33-1) was equally dominant on his way to the 157-pound title as he posted back-to-back pins before earning a 19-4 tech fall over sixth-ranked Wyatt Vlasek of Cedar Rapids Prairie in the championship match.
Chris Davis finished fourth at 120 pounds and Gabe Egeland was seventh at 150 and Trey Dervrich was seventh at 285.
Kendall Kurtz finished fifth at 113 pounds, Zyaire Washpun was fifth at 126, Jake Mitchell was fifth at 144, Mason Tilley was fifth at 175 and Raphael Etuma was fifth at 190.
Liberty High was led by ninth-ranked Lima (26-2) who claimed the 215-pound title with back-to-back one-point wins over top-10 opponents.
Lima won a 4-3 decision over eighth-ranked Jean Ngoma of Cedar Rapids Xavier in the semifinals and then won a 9-8 decision over fourth-ranked Griffin Schultz of Linn-Mar in the championship match.
Benjamin Rosen finished fourth at 113 pounds and Gavin Benton was fourth at 175 pounds for Liberty High while Christos Panos was sixth at 126.
Landon Bell finished seventh at 157 and Ethan Barber was eighth at 190.
