West Branch continued its strong season winning the team title at the John Byers Invitational on Saturday at Midland High School in Wyoming.

The Bears had six finalists and crowned five champions at the 19-team invitational finishing with 212.5 points to finish three points in front of Southeast Polk.

Maquoketa Valley was third with 150 points followed by MFL Mar Mac with 139 and Durant with 112.5.

Ethan Humphrey, Lincoln Edwards, Logan Christoffel, Cale Seydel and Cooper Gates all won titles for West Branch while Logan Wright added a runner-up finish.

Humphrey (23-1) went 3-0 with two pins and a tech fall on his way to the 106-pound title, pinning Jesus Lara of Clayton Ridge in 2:51 in the title match.

Class 1A No. 10 Edwards (19-4) posted three consecutive pins to win the 120-pound title, pinning Marcus Gaul of Edgewood-Colesburg in 1:33 in the championship.

Christoffel (23-5) capped a 3-0 day with a 3-0 decision over Trey Ramer in the 132-pound title match and Seydel (19-4) went 3-0 and won a 4-2 decision over 1A No. 11 Tristen Koehn of MFL Mar Mac in the 157-pound championship.

Class 2A seventh-ranked Gates went 3-0 on his way to the 165-pound title, winning a 5-1 decision over Quinn McGeough of MFL Mar-Mac in the championship.

1A seventh-ranked Wright went 3-1 and finished runner-up at 285 pounds, dropping a 9-3 decision to 1A third-ranked Aiden Salow of Maquoketa Valley in the championship match.

Tate Frantz placed fourth at 190 and Quintyn Rocha placed four at 215 while Timmy Hosier was fifth at 126 and Shae Farmer was fifth at 175.
