Girls Cross Country Roundup: West High Trio of Van Waning, Olson and Titus Qualify For State Meet

A trio of West High runners secured their first ever trip to the state cross country meet on Wednesday at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.
Kate Van Waning, Susanna Olson and Kalli Titus all earned spots at the 4A state meet scheduled for October 27 at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge with top 21 finishes on Wednesday.
Van Waning finished 16th, Titus was 20th and Olson was 21st to help West High to a fourth-place team finish.
Seventh-ranked Ankeny Centennial won the team title with 23 points while No. 10 Waukee was runner-up with 44.
No. 12 Cedar Falls finished third with 84 points and West High was fourth with 108.
Van Waning led West High with her 16th place finish in a time of 19:58.3.
Titus finished 20th in a time of 20:11.35 while Olson was right behind in 21st place in a time of 20:12.31.
Cindy Wang was 23rd for West High in a time of 20:18.63 and senior Erinn Varga was 28th in 20:48.57.
Ankeny Centennial junior Anika Mohrhauser won the individual title in a time of 18:12.32 while Waukee sophomore Michelle McConkey was runner-up in 18:42.58.
