Boys Cross Country Roundup: West High Qualifies Five Individuals For Class 4A State Meet

West High narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet as a team but the Trojans will be sending five individuals to Fort Dodge next week.
Moustafa Tiea, Cade Benson, Brice Wahe, Michael Lee and Sam Showers all secured spots at the state cross country meet at the Class 4A state qualifying meet on Wednesday at Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.
West High finished fourth as a team but the top five finishers for the Trojans qualified as individuals for the 4A state meet schedule for October 27 at Lakeside Golf Course in Iowa City.
Third-ranked Cedar Falls won the team title with 25 points while No. 12 Ankeny Centennial was runner-up with 60 points and No. 15 Waukee was third with 64 points.
West High finished fourth with 84 points.
Tiea led the Trojans placing sixth in a time of 16:05.2 to earn a third consecutive trip to the state meet.
Benson finished 17th in 16:50.82 and Wahe was 19th in a time of 16:51.83.
Lee placed 20th for the Trojans in a time of 16:51.98 and Showers finished 22nd in a time of 17:00.58.
Cedar Falls sophomore Jaden Merrick won the individual in a time of 15:17 while AJ Schermerhorn of Ankeny Centennial was runner-up in 15:23.02.
