Big Game From Naeve Helps Regina Roll Past Mid-Prairie

A strong start, solid defense and a big game from versatile senior Jackson Naeve added up to the perfect recipe to get Regina to 2-0 on Friday night.
Regina scored the first 23 points of the game and got five touchdowns from Naeve and a second consecutive solid outing from its defense in a 51-19 win over Mid-Prairie on Friday at Regal Field in Iowa City.
Naeve accounted for 183 yards of offense and scored five touchdowns and junior running back Will Aitchison and senior quarterback Gentry Dumont each had big nights as Regina started 2-0 for the third time in the past four seasons.
Dumont passed for 280 yards and three touchdowns, all to Naeve, and Aitchison ran for 170 yards and a touchdown as Regina rolled up 529 yards of total offense.
The win was the third straight for Regina over Mid-Prairie and came after a 35-7 Regina win over the Golden Hawks last season.
Regina took a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game when Aitchison scored on a 9-yard touchdown run.
Naeve added a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:09 left in the opening quarter to give the Regals a 14-0 lead.
It was 17-0 at halftime after Emilian Herrera-Sinnwell booted a 25 yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining in the opening half.
The second touchdown run of the game by Naeve made it 23-0 Regina with 4:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Mid-Prairie cut into the lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Brady Weber but Regina responded with the first of three fourth-quarter touchdown grabs by Naeve.
The senior receiver hauled in touchdown passes of 6, 20 and 35 yards from Dumont in the fourth quarter as Regina put the game away.
Naeve had nine receptions for 151 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 32 yards and two scores.
Dumont completed 17-of-29 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns with Alex Jensen catching four passes for 34 yards and Ty Joss making two grabs for 41 yards.
Freshman Tate Wallace caught a 35-yard pass and had a sack as part of a strong effort from the Regina defense.
Naeve and senior defensive lineman Drew Streb each had six tackles for Regina with Streb adding 1.5 sacks.
Senior Ian Udell had five tackles and a sack while junior Leren Fernandez had 4.5 tackles and sophomore Andrew Greve picked off a pass.
Regina travels to Mediapolis (1-1) next week while Mid-Prairie (0-2) travels to Sigourney-Keota (1-1).
