Baseball Roundup: Sixth-ranked Dubuque Wahlert Stops Solon in Substate Semifinal

Solon struck first in its substate semifinal against Dubuque Wahlert on Monday but the Golden Eagles dealt the final blow.
Sixth-ranked Dubuque Wahlert scored eight unanswered runs in an 8-1 win over Solon in a Class 3A, Substate 4 semifinal at Petrakis Park in Dubuque.
Dubuque Wahlert improved to 28-13 with the win and will host Central DeWitt (26-14) in the Substate 4 title game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Solon closed the season 22-20.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Brett White doubled with two outs and scored on an RBI single by Gehrig Turner.
Dubuque Wahlert tied the game at 1-1 on an inside the park home run by Bryce Rudiger in the bottom of the fourth.
The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Foti Rigopulos and Ryan Brosius.
Dubuque Wahlert broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning that featured an RBI single by Rigopoulos and a three-run double by Jack Walsh.
Brosius earned the win for Wahlert allowing one run on five hits while striking out two and walking two.
Jackson Link took the loss for Solon giving up three runs on six hits while striking out two in 3 2/3 innings.
White went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored for Solon while Turner had a hit and drove in a run and Blake Timmons and Dylan Gorham each added hits.
