Solon junior Jack McCarty led a strong day-two charge for Solon at the Class 3A state golf meet on Tuesday finishing third overall to help the Spartans to a third straight top-five team finish.

McCarty fired a two-over-par 74 on Tuesday to finish with a 36-hole total of 153 to place third as Solon finished fifth as a team with a 654.

After opening the meet with a 335 on Monday the Spartans shot a 319 on Tuesday to finish 25 strokes behind MOC-Floyd Valley which won the 3A title with a 629.

Knoxville was runner-up with a 643 while two-time defending champion Gilbert was third with a 645.

McCarty highlighted a strong close for the Spartans which also got an eighth-place finish from sophomore Isaiah Zoske.

Zoske shot a one-over 73 on Tuesday and was one of six golfers to close with 36-hole total of 157.

Brennan Heesch shot an 84 on Tuesday to finish with a 172 while Mac McCarty shot a 90 on Tuesday and finished with a 174.

Clear Creek Amana senior Zach McCarty carded a five-over-par 77 on Tuesday to finish fifth with a 36-hole total of 156.

Roman Roth of Washington won the individual title with a one-under-par 143 while Davis Korver of MOC-Floyd Valley was runner-up with a 151.
