Wrestling Roundup: City High Crowns Three Champs in Fourth-place Finish at MVC Meet

City High crowned three champions and finished fourth as a team in a strong showing at the Mississippi Valley Conference meet on Saturday at Waterloo West High School.
Kael Kurtz, Gabe Arnold and Ben Kueter claimed individual titles for City High as the Little Hawks racked up 170.5 team points.
Linn-Mar won the team title with 233 points while Cedar Rapids Prairie was runner-up with 214 and Dubuque Hempstead was third with 184.5.
West High and Liberty High each had one individual champion as West High finished 10th with 90 points and Liberty High was 12th with 73 points.
Kurtz (31-4) went 3-0 on his way to the 132-pound title winning via medical forfeit over Brayden Parke of Linn-Mar.
Top-ranked Arnold (34-0) went 3-0 on his way to the 182-pound title.
Arnold posted back-to-back pins to reach the champions match where he defeated second-ranked Tate Naaktgeboren of Linn-Mar 3-2.
Top-ranked Kueter (32-0) recorded pins in nine and 27 seconds to reach the 220-pound championship match where he posted a 15-0 tech fall over second-ranked Joseph Lewis of Dubuque Hempstead.
Jake Mitchell (22-6) added a runner-up finish at 138 pounds for City High while Kendall Kurtz was fourth at 106 pounds and Zach Fern was fourth at 145 pounds.
Chris Davis finished seventh at 113 pounds, Blaine Heick was seventh at 152, Raphael Etuma was seventh at 195 and Edgar Mhoon-Lopez was eighth at 120 pounds and Nick Marker was eighth at 160.
Freshman Alexander Pierce won the 106-pound title for West High.
Second-ranked Pierce (36-2) won a 7-2 decision over ninth-ranked Dylan Munson of Cedar Rapids Prairie in the semifinals and won a 11-6 decision over fifth-ranked Mitchell Pins of Dubuque Hempstead in the championship match.
Justin Avila finished third at 160 pounds, Kyler Scranton was third at 152 and Braden Doyle was third at 132 pounds for the Trojans.
Campbell Janis placed sixth at 120 pounds for West High.
Liberty High got an individual title from senior Vincenzo Lima (31-5) at 195 pounds.
Lima pinned his way to the 195-pound championship capped by a third-period pin of Cedar Rapids Prairie junior Collin Velkey in the title match.
Anyhlan Peoples finished sixth for Liberty High at 138 pounds and Landon Bell was sixth at 152 pounds.
Eduardo Zepeda was seventh at 182 pounds for Liberty High and Austin Franklin was eight at 145 pounds.
