City High Senior Linebacker Kueter Named to IPSWA First-Team All-State Team for Second Consecutive Season

Last season Ben Kueter emerged as one of the best overall players in the state with a breakthrough junior year.
This fall the City High senior backed it up with another incredible season that ended with first-team all-state honors.
Kueter earned first-team all-state honors for the second consecutive season after being named to the 5A all-state first team on Tuesday by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
An Iowa recruit, Kueter headlines a group of three City High players to earn all-state honors from the IPSWA joining West High senior receiver Christian Janis as Your Prep Sports area players on the 5A all-state team.
City High senior Akili Mattox and junior Drew Larson each earned second-team all-state honors.
Kueter was a first-team all-state pick as a linebacker for the second year in a row after ranking second in Class 5A in total tackles and third in tackles for loss.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Kueter racked up 93.5 tackles including 58 solo stops and 25.5 tackles for loss in 10 games.
Kueter also rushed for 510 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 18 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns.
Larson was named to the 5A second team as a defensive back after ranking sixth on the team with 14.5 tackles and leading the Little Hawks with two interceptions.
The versatile 6-foot-1, 175-pound Larson was among the most productive quarterbacks in the state passing for 1,841 yards and 19 touchdowns and rushing for 303 yards and five touchdowns.
Mattox earned second-team all-state honors as a receiver after leading City High with 700 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Mattox caught 33 passes and ranked 10th in 5A in both receiving touchdowns and receiving yards.
Janis earned second-team all-state honors as a receiver.
The West High senior ranked sixth in Class 5A with 739 receiving yards and was third in 5A with 12 touchdown receptions.
