Boys Cross Country Roundup: West High and Liberty High Qualify Two for State Cross Country Meet

West High and Liberty High will each send a pair of runners to the state cross country meet last week.
Moustafa Tiea and Seth Cheney from West High and Aidan Decker and Noah Gregoire from Liberty High each posted top-15 finishes at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at the Dubuque Cross Country Course on Wednesday to secure spots at the state meet next Saturday in Fort Dodge.
Fifth-ranked Cedar Falls won the team title via tiebreaker over seventh-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy after both teams finished with 51 points.
No. 10 Dubuque Hempstead was third with 66 points to secure a spot at the state meet.
West High was fourth with 92 points while Liberty High was fifth with 130 points.
Tiea, a sophomore, paced West High with a fifth-place finish in a time of 15:59 while Cheney was 10th in 16:11.
Decker secured a spot at state with a ninth-place finish in a time of 16:08 while Gregoire was 14th in a time of 16;21.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy senior Miles Wilson won the individual title in a time of 15:31 while John Maloney of Dubuque Hempstead was runner-up in 15:41.
