Boys Cross Country Roundup: Washburn, Fourth-ranked City High Win Titles at Class 4A State Qualifier

City High expects to compete for a state title next week at the state cross country meet in Fort Dodge.
On Friday the Little Hawks looked like a state title contender.
Senior Ford Washburn strolled to the individual title and City High put five runners in the top 15 while winning the team title at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf.
Fourth-ranked City High had four runners in the top nine and finished with 35 points, 19 in front of eighth-ranked Pleasant Valley.
No. 16 Cedar Rapids Prairie finished third with 66 points to claim the third state meet qualifying spot.
Washburn continued an impressive senior season by winning the individual title in a time of 15:25.
Jacob Mumey of Pleasant Valley was second in 15:49 and was the only other runner under 16 minutes.
City High senior Truman Thompson was third in 16:22 while teammate Noah Carey was seventh in a time of 16:41 and Ammon Smith was ninth in 16:43.
The Little Hawks had all seven runners place in the top 20 as Owyn Noble finished 15th in 17:01, Ayman Noreldaim was 17th in 17:06 and Braeden Marker was 20th in 17:12.
