Solon Posts Second Consecutive Shutout In Homecoming Win Over Washington

The Class 3A ninth-ranked Solon Spartans didn’t waste any time getting the homecoming party started in a 44-0 win over Washington on Friday at Spartan Stadium in Solon
Solon scored 28 first-quarter points and led 37-0 at the half while improving to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in District 5 play with its second consecutive shutout and third of the season.
Zach Capper took the opening kickoff nine yards to give the ball to the Spartan offense at the 44-yard line.
From there it was a Timmons to Stahle show.
On the first snap they hooked up for a 21-yard gain to the 35-yard line and then connected again for a 35-yard touchdown.
Grant Knipper tacked on the extra point to make it 7-0 just 40 seconds into the game.
The teams traded punts and Blake Timmons did his best Tory Taylor impression and boomed a 66-yard punt down to the 2-yard line.
On the very first play the Demons ran around the right side when Brett White reached in and knocked the ball out and right into the hands of Rhyse Wear who scooped and scored from 7 yards out.
Another Knipper extra point and the Spartans jumped out to 14-0 lead 9:08 left in the 1st quarter.
On the Demons ensuing series Quinton Heineman stepped in front of a third down throw and picked off the pass returning it 13 yards to the 20.
Two plays later Brett White scampers off the left side from 17 yards out, add another Knipper extra point and the score stands at 21-0 at the 7:20 mark.
After the kickoff on the Demons next play the Spartans again caused another turnover this time Ben Kampman jumping on a fumble.
Solon only needed five plays to cover 39 yards leading to their next score.
A combination of three runs and two passes led to Timmons to Stahle connecting again this time on a 9-yard slant over the middle getting a little push from the offensive line.
Knipper made good on another extra point to push the lead to 28-0 with 4:54 left in the 1st quarter.
The Spartans made it 34-0 when Timmons hooked up with Ryan Rasmussen on a 37-yard pitch and catch.
With 5:07 left in the quarter Grant Knipper drilled a 21-yard field goal to make it 37-0 at the half.
White rumbled off a 57 run to set up the Knipper field goal.
Brayden Moore picked off a pass in the 3rd quarter.
Jack McCarty scored the final touchdown on the night for Solon.
He took the ball off the right side and ran in for a 33-yard score.
Knipper added another extra point to close the scoring for the night.
Timmons finished 6-of-10 passing for 116 yards and three touchdowns with Stahle hauling in three passes for 66 yards and two scores.
White rushed for 90 yards and Stahle added 34 on the ground as Solon finished with 207 rushing yards.
The Spartan defense came ready to play holding the Demons to a 3-of-17 passing night.
Solon picked off two passes, recovered two fumbles scoring on one and sacking the quarterback three times.
The Spartans limited Washington to 48 rushing yards and 116 total yards in the shutout.
Whit had a team-high 6.5 tackles and a sack while Barret Schade had 4.5 tackles and Kampman had 3.5 tackles including two for loss and a sack.
Kaleb Behrends had a sack for Solon which travels to Fairfield (4-2, 2-0) next Friday.
Washington (2-4, 0-2) travels to Keokuk next Friday.
