Girls Cross Country Roundup: City High Finishes Sixth at Spartan Invitational

Ani Wedemeyer placed 11th to lead City High to a sixth-place team finish at the Spartan Invitational on Saturday at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf.
Wedemeyer finished 11th in a time of 20:09 and pace a trio of Little Hawks that finished in the top 30 in a strong field as Class 4A No. 14 City High finished with 146 points.
Naperville North (Illinois) won the team title with 43 points while Class 4A third-ranked Johnston was runner-up with 69 points and second-ranked Pleasant Valley was third with 87.
West High finished ninth with 247 points.
Nina Kuhlman placed 24th for City High in a time of 21:02 while Iris Wedemeyer was 27th in 21:11.
West High was led by junior Cindy Wang who placed 37th in a time of 21:39 while freshman Kate Van Waning was 48th in 22:28 and Erinn Varga was 49th in 22:29.
