Gable Mitchell, Cade Obermueller and Ben Swails will be teammates at Iowa beginning this fall.

Before focusing on their college futurs the trio of Iowa commits collected one final accolade for outstanding prep creers.

Iowa recruits Mitchell, Obermueller and Swails were all named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State “Super” Team when the organization released its postseason honors on Saturday.

The 16-member Super Team is made up of the top players in the state from all four classes.

Mitchell was the Super Team shortstop and the captain of the Class 4A all-state team and Obermueller was a Super Team pick as a pitcher after the duo helped City High to the Class 4A state semifinals.

Swails was named to the Super Team as a utility pick and was also the captain of the Class 3A team following a stellar senior season in which he ranked in the top five in Class 3A in home runs, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage.

A four-year varsity starter, Mitchell was named to the Super Team following the best offensive season of his career.

The switch-hitting shortstop ranked in the top five in Class 4A in batting average (.466), runs (55), on-base percentage (.597) and walks (36) and also stole 25 bases, had 12 extra-base hits and 29 RBI.

Obermueller was equally impressive in his final prep season leading 4A in opponent batting average and ranking second in strikeouts.

The left-handed throwing Obermueller posted 7-1 record and 1.11 ERA in 50 1/3 innings this season holding opponents to a .103 batting average while fanning 103.

Obermueller also hit .410 and led City High with 40 RBI.

Senior outfielder Joey Bouska joined City High teammates Obermueller and Mitchell on the all-state team landing on the 4A second team as an outfielder.

Bouska hit .376 with 42 runs scored and 22 RBI.

Swails had one of the best seasons for any hitter in the state batting .477 and ranking in the top five in Class 3A in home runs (9), RBI (57), total bases (95) and slugging percentage (.856).

A four-sport standout, Swails had an OPS of 1.43 finished with 11 doubles, two triples and 39 runs scored.

Clear Creek Amana senior Sam Young was named to the Class 3A second-team as a utility player.

Young went 7-0 with a 2.64 ERA in a team-high 53 innings pitched and also hit .362 with 34 runs scored and 24 RBI.

Solon had a pair of players named to the Class 3A all-state team led by sophomore Brett White who was a first-team pick at shortstop.

Senior Kinnick Pusteoska was named to the 3A third-team as a first baseman.

White hit a team-high .482 and led Solon with 23 extra-base hits, seven home runs and 45 RBI and ranked in the top five in Class 3A in on-base percentage (.619), hits (55), runs (55) and stolen bases (40).

Pusteoska hit .324 with 19 extra-base hits and 42 RBI while drawing a team-high 39 walks and posting an on-base percentage of .506 and an OPS of 1.083.

Regina junior Danny Gavin was named to the Class 2A all-state team as an outfielder.

Gavin hit .346 and led Regina in hits (28), runs (29), doubles (10), home runs (2) and walks (20).
