Liberty High Headlines Area Class 5A All-State Picks With Three on IGCA Teams

Liberty High completed the most successful softball season in program history earlier this month setting school records for wins and Mississippi Valley Conference victories while advancing to the Class 5A regional title game.
On Thursday a few of the players responsible for the Lightning success picked up some postseason honors.
Liberty High had three players earn all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association on Thursday when the organization released its postseason awards.
Mischa Reiners, Kennedy Daugherty and Kinsley Robertson all earned all-state honors to highlight six area players named to the Class 5A all-state teams.
A sophomore catcher, Reiners earned first-team all-state honors after a stellar season in which she led Liberty High in hits (64), runs (45), triples (3), total bases (99) and slugging percentage (.647).
Reiners hit .418 with 22 extra-base hits including five home runs and drove in 30 runs.
Robertson and Daugherty each earned second-team honors in Class 5A after both posting strong seasons both at the plate and in the circle.
Daugherty hit .314 with nine home runs and 41 RBI and led the Lightning with 25 extra-base hits.
The junior also posted a 12-7 record and 2.54 ERA while striking out 90 in 129 2/3 innings pitched.
Robertson went 15-7 with a 2.09 ERA and fanned 167 in 137 innings in the circle to and had the best season of her career at the plate.
The senior hit a team-high .449 with four doubles and drove in 30 runs while striking out just three times in 147 plate appearances.
City High had a pair of young standouts earn all-state honors as freshmen Lianna Hull and Avy Lindsey were each named to the IGCA team for the first time.
West High senior Maddie Caylor also earned all-state status for the first time in her career.
Hull earned second-team honors after a breakthrough season in which she ranked in the top three in Class 5A in hits (75), runs (56) and batting average (.536).
The freshman shortstop had six extra-base hits and stole 31 bases on her way to earning all-state honors.
Lindsey was named to the third team after her own breakthrough season in which she hit .409 with 15 extra-base hits.
A freshman second basemen, Lindsey scored 39 runs, had nine doubles and three home runs and led City High with 43 RBI.
Caylor had the best season of her career as a senior leading West High in hits (42), batting average (.400), home runs (3), RBI (29) and slugging percentage (.543).
