Last week City High secured a Mississippi Valley Conference divisional title and on Wednesday the Little Hawks locked up a trip to the 4A state tournament.

On Thursday the Little Hawks began to reap the rewards for their special season.

City High senior shortstop Gable Mitchell was named MVC Mississippi Division athlete of the year and head coach Brian Mitchell was tabbed coach of the year when the league released its postseason honors.

Seniors Cade Obermueller and Joey Bouska joined Gable Mitchell as unanimous first-team all-division picks as City High had seven players earn all-division honors.

Mitchell was named athlete of the year following a stellar senior season in which he led City High in batting average (.477), on-base percentage (.605), total bases (73), hits (53), runs (52), home runs (2), walks (34) and stolen bases (25).

Obermueller was a unanimous first-team pick as a pitcher after posting a 6-1 record and a 1.20 ERA while striking out 98 in a team-leading 46 2/3 innings.

Opponents hit just .105 against the left-handed Obermueller who allowed just 17 hits and 26 walks.

Obermueller also hit .402 with 13 extra-base hits and led City High with 38 RBI.

Bouska was the third unanimous all-Mississippi Division selection for the Little Hawks.

The senior centerfielder hit .366 with 39 runs scored and 22 RBI and stole 15 bases.

Senior John Klosterman was a second-team selection as a pitcher while junior Alex Knudtson was a second-team utility pick.

Klosterman was 2-1 with a 1.02 ERA and struck out 26 in 20 2/3 innings.

Knudtson went 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 37 innings on the mound and also hit .364 with 26 runs scored and ranked second on the team with 36 RBI.

Seniors Gavin Koch and Carter Seaton each earned honorable mention honors for City High.

Liberty High had three players earn all-Mississippi Division honors while West High had four players earned all-division honors in the Valley Division.

Liberty High senior outfielder Luke Meyers was named to the Mississippi Division second team after hitting .350 with 18 RBI and leading the Lightning with 18 stolen bases and 30 runs scored.

Seniors Jack Funke and Hayden Vickroy were both honorable mention honorees for Liberty High.

West High juniors Mitch Frey and Ryne Vander Leest were both named to the Valley Division first team.

Frey was a second-team all-Valley Division selection as a corner infielder while Vander Leest was a middle infield selection.

Vander Leest hit .314 with a team-leading 33 runs scored and 21 RBI while Frey hit .286 and led the Trojans with 13 doubles, 28 RBI and 15 extra-base hits.

Seniors Noah DeSaulniers and Cade Adkins each earned honorable mention honors for West High.
