Regional Softball Roundup: Regina Rolls Past Denver in Postseason Opener

Class 2A fourth-ranked Regina opened the postseason on Wednesday with an 11-1, five-inning win over Denver in a Region 6 quarterfinal in Iowa City.
Emma Nibaur allowed just two hits and stuck out three and Courtney Kessler and Dani Laughlin each had three hits as Regina improved to 19-11 on the season and advanced to the Region 6 semifinals where it will host Alburnett (18-16) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Alburnett scored nine runs in the first inning and defeated Waterloo Columbus 9-5 on Wednesday in another Region 6 quarterfinal.
Denver closed the season 13-18.
Regina scored two runs in first inning and a run in the third before breaking the game open with six runs in the fourth inning.
Kessler went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI to lead the Regals while Laughlin was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored four runs.
Jillian Panther had a hit and scored a run and Avery Kies walked twice and scored twice.
Gabby Sueppel had a hit and Morgan Gahan and Nibaur each scored runs for Regina.
Nibaur allowed just one run on two hits while striking out three without walking a batter to earn the win.
