Softball Roundup: Regina Rallies Past No. 5 Northeast on Panther’s Game-winning Double

After dropping a one-run game to a ranked River Valley Conference opponent on Wednesday Class 2A sixth-ranked Regina found itself on the other end of a close game against a ranked team on Thursday.
Jillian Panther hit a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Regina to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Class 3A fifth-ranked Northeast on Thursday in an RVC cross-division contest in Iowa City.
Regina scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings and improved to 10-7 on the season and 5-2 in RVC play with the win.
Northeast dropped to 14-5 and 10-1 in conference play.
Emma Nibaur earned the win for Regina allowing two unearned runs on nine hits while striking out eight without walking a batter.
Panther went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Regina while Nibaur had two hits and drove in a run and Avery Kies had two hits.
Laci Chambliss and Kennedy Connor had hits and Alli Clark scored a run for Regina.
