For the first time in nearly two decades Solon will have a new boys soccer coach.

Long-time head coach Jeremy McMurrin announced his decision to step down as head coach Wednesday after 18 seasons leading the program.

McMurrin won 214 games in 18 seasons at Solon turning the Spartans into one of the most consistent small school programs in the state.

Solon qualified for the state tournament three times under McMurrin including a Class 1A runner-up finish in the Spartans’ state debut in 2011.

Since that breakthrough 2011 season the Spartans were a model of consistency under the leadership of McMurrin.

The Spartans won at least 11 matches in all 11 seasons since 2011 winning 13 or more matches six times during that stretch.

Solon qualified for the state tournament in 2017 and reached the substate final each of the past four seasons.

In his final season McMurrin led the Spartans to one of the best seasons in program history as Solon went 16-3 this spring falling to Bondurant-Farrar in a Class 2A substate final.

McMurrin posted a 214-98-5 record during his 18-year tenure as head coach.
