An impressive season for the Solon girls soccer team came up one win shy of a trip to the state tournament.
Class 2A eighth-ranked Van Meter broke open a close match with three second-half goals on its way to a 4-0 win over No. 9 Solon in the Class 1A, Region 7 title match on Thursday in Van Meter.
Van Meter 11-5 advanced to the Class 1A state tournament for the first time in program history while Solon closed a strong season 16-4.
Four different Van Meter players scored goals as the Bulldogs snapped a seven-match winning streak for Solon.
Eden Moore, Mary Kelly, Katie Vaught and Grace Garrison all scored goals for Van Meter while Garrison and Moore had assists in the win.
