Keeney Opens Busy Drake Relays With Eighth-place Finish in 3,000

Ashlyn Keeney has a busy weekend ahead at the Drake Relays.
The Liberty High senior standout started her weekend by adding to her career Drake Relays legacy with another top-10 finish.
Keeney placed eighth in the 3,000 on Thursday evening at Drake Stadium in Des Moines finishing in a time of 10:12.09.
The 3,000 champion in 2019 and the 1,500 meter champion last season, Keeney is schedule to compete in three individual events this week in her final showing at the Drake Relays.
The busy week for Keeney began on Thursday with her eighth-place finish in which she improved her previous season best time by more than 12 seconds.
Ballard junior Paityn Noe won the 3,000 in a time of 9:53.31 while West Des Moines Valley sophomore Addison Dorenkamp was runner-up in 9:56.91.
Liberty High senior Isabelle Woody finished tied for 12th in the high jump on Thursday by clearing 5-2.
Woody was one of eight competitors to clear 5-2, clearing both 5-0 and 5-2 on her first attempts.
Maddie Olson of Sheldon won the high jump title by clearing 5-7 while Taylor Jochum of Sioux City Heelan also cleared 5-7 and finished runner-up.
