The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Ashley Joens
City High graduate and current Iowa State senior Ashley Joens was named the Cheryl Miller Award winner as the nation’s top small forward for the second consecutive season last Friday.
Joens became the first two-time winner of the award after leading Iowa State with 20.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season while collecting 18 double-doubles.
The all-time leading scorer at Iowa State, Joens helped the Cyclones to a program-record 28 wins and a spot in the NCAA Sweet 16 this season.
Sarah Lehman
Former Regina all-stater and current DePaul senior Sarah Lehman tossed a complete game two-hitter to lift the Blue Demons to a 7-1 win over Villanova on Friday in Chicago.
Lehman allowed just three walks and two hits in the seven-inning complete game, striking out eight while improving to 5-5 on the season.
On the year the Regina graduate has a 4.38 ERA in a team-high 68 2/3 innings and lead the team with 54 strikeouts.
Luke Ira
Solon graduate and current South Dakota state shortstop Luke Ira went 3-of-9 with a home run and had a hit in all three games over the weekend as the Jackrabbits swept a three-game series from St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Ira had a two-run homer in a 6-1 win on Sunday that completed the sweep and improved South Dakota state to 9-15 on the season.
On the season Ira is hitting a team-high .306 and leads South Dakota State with six doubles, six home runs 16 runs score and 18 RBI.
