Class 3A Fifth-ranked West High opened the season with a 47-27 win over Cedar Rapids Xavier on Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual meet in Cedar Rapids.

West High got pins from Grant O’Dell at 138, Drake Davis at 182 and Brett Pelfrey at 285 pounds while Kael Scranton posted a tech fall at 170.

The Trojans had three wins via forfeit among their nine victories on Thursday.

Top-ranked 152 pounder Robert Avila defeated third-ranked Christian Stanek 3-2 at 160 pounds in the match of the night.
