The latest in a long line of standout lineman at West Branch has found a home for his football future.
Senior all-stater Drake Berry announced his commitment to Wayne State College on Thursday with a post on social media.
“After a long conversation with my family I am blessed and excited to announce that I have committed to Wayne State College,” Berry wrote on Twitter. “Also, I would like to thank my friends, family, football coaches and StrengthU for helping me get to where I am. I’m so excited to see what the future holds.”
A two-year, two-way starter, Berry was an anchor on both sides of the ball for West Branch this season.
Berry earned second-team all-state honors as an offensive lineman after helping West Branch to a 7-3 record and a spot in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs this fall.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Berry helped West Branch average 184 rushing yards per game this season and paved the way for junior Andy Henson to run for more than 1,300 yards.
On defense Berry had a career-high 24.5 tackles with five tackles for loss and three sacks.
Over the past two seasons Berry had 40 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
Located in Wayne, Nebraska, Wayne State is a member of NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Athletic Conference.
The Wildcats were 7-4 this fall.
