The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Hailey Hested
Liberty High graduate Hailey Hested was named Heart of America Athletic conference co-freshman of the year after a strong debut season as the starting setter at Mount Mercy.
Hested averaged 9.59 assists per set in conference matches and finished with a team-high 758 assists (9.24 per set) on the season while helping the Mustangs to a 13-15 record.
Hested also had 199 digs and 38 kills.
Billy Friis
West Branch graduate and current Central College senior tight end Billy Friis was earned second team all-conference honors from the American Rivers Conference last week.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Friis has caught 12 passes for 140 yards and four touchdowns helping Central to an 11-0 record, a conference title and a spot in the second round of the Division 3 playoffs.
Tate Crane
West High graduate had a strong freshman season at Truman State this fall ranking fourth on the team in receiving yards and third in touchdown catches as a freshman.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Crane caught 17 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns this season helping the Bulldogs to an 8-3 record.
