For the second time in a little more than a year Solon is searching for a new boys basketball coach.
Matt Lesan announced his resignation with a post on social media Thursday after directing Solon to a 7-15 record in his only season leading the program.
“As hard as it is for me to say this, I will be resigning from the head basketball position today,” Lesan wrote on post on Twitter. “Thank you to all of the players and coaches I’ve had the privilege to coach this year. Your dedication and commitment to becoming better men is what will make you all great. I’m forever grateful for this opportunity and will continue to support Solon athletics.”
The all-time leading scorer in Solon history, Lesan took over at his alma mater last April replacing Jason Pershing who went 58-57 in five seasons as the head coach at Solon.
Solon won three of four games to close the regular season before falling to Keokuk in its postseason opener last February.
Lesan wrote in his statement that he would be pursuing teaching opportunities in another district as well as continuing work on his administrative degree.
