West High Coach Mayer Named National Coach of the Year Semifinalist

BJ Mayer has already built a reputation as one of the top coaches in the state.
Now the West High head coach is being recognized as one of the best in the country.
Mayer has been selected as a semifinalist for national girls basketball coach of the year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.
Mayer is one of eight semifinalists for the award that has been presented annually by the NHSACA since 1978.
Before his arrival in 2007 West High had never been to the state tournament.
Over the past 13 seasons Mayer has led the Women of Troy to the state tournament six times, reaching the semifinals four times and winning state titles in 2012 and 2018.
Mayer has compiled a 220-81 record in 13 seasons at West High and holds a career 348-164 mark.
West High is 9-7 this season.
