Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Rallies Past Regina in Non-Conference Matchup

Liberty High rallied from a 3-2 deficit with four runs in the top of the seventh inning and then smothered a late Regina rally in a 6-3 win over the Regals in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening in Iowa City.
The win was the fifth straight for Liberty High and improved the Lightning to 21-11 on the season while Regina dropped to 13-14.
After Liberty High took its first lead of the game with four runs in the top of the seventh Regina loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but Jack Turgasen came on to record the final out and collect the save.
Ian Gates earned the win, allowing one run on four hits in 1 2/3 innings while Kolton Fangman pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Evan Bender.
Bender struck out seven while allowing two runs on four hits over 3 1/3.
Regina got a strong start from senior Danny Molony who allowed just two hits and struck out four over 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
Jack Tierney took the loss allowing six runs on four hits while striking out six in 2 2/3 innings.
Brody Fishman went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Noah Kirk had two hits and drove in two runs for Liberty High.
Keian Secrist had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run and Garret Rogy scored a run for Liberty High.
Ethan VonHarz had two hits and Levi Quinlan went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to pace Regina.
Sean Nugent had two hits, Tierney had a hit and scored twice and Declan McCoy drove in a run for the Regals.
