Baseball Roundup: City High Sweeps Waterloo West, Moves into Tie for First Place in MVC Mississippi Division

City High pulled into a tie with Cedar Rapids Prairie atop the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division standings with a doubleheader sweep of Waterloo West on Monday at Mercer Park in Iowa City.
Class 4A No. 10 City High won the opener 4-1 and took the nightcap 14-8 while improving to 26-10 on the season and 22-6 in MVC play.
Waterloo West dropped to 16-16 on the season and 12-14 in conference play with the loss.
Gavin Koch tossed a three-hitter in the opener, allowing just one run while striking out eight without issuing a walk.
Ben Kueter went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Carter Seaton had two hits and drove in two runs to pace the Little Hawks.
John Klosterman had a triple, Jacob Means doubled and Cedric Dunnwald had a hit for City High while Koch drove in a run and Alex Knudtson scored a run.
James Kriz earned the win in the nightcap, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one in 4 2/3 innings of relief.
Klosterman retired the final four hitters, striking out three and walking on in 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Joey Bouska went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Alex Knudtson was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to pace City High.
Seaton was 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI while Gable Mitchell went 1-for-1 with three RBI and a run scored.
Jacob Means had two hits, drove in two runs and scored a run and Klosterman had a hit and scored two runs. Grant Ernst, Jacob Williamson and Kueter all scored runs for City High in the nightcap.
City High closes MVC play on Thursday with a doubleheader at Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
