Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Caps Impressive Week With Sweep of Linn-Mar

Liberty High capped an impressive week with a third consecutive Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader sweep on Friday, taking a pair of games from Linn-Mar at Oak Ridge Middle School in Marion.
The Lightning won the opener 3-2 and took the nightcap 11-8 stretching its winning streak to eight while improving to 13-7 on the season and 8-6 in MVC play.
Liberty High posted MVC sweeps of Western Dubuque and Cedar Rapids Washington during the week and hasn’t lost since an 8-7 setback at Cedar Falls on June 11.
Linn-Mar dropped to 8-13 on the season and 7-9 in MVC play with the loss.
Hayden Vickroy earned the win in the opener allowing just three hits in five shutout innings.
Vickroy struck out five and walked five and TJ Kimm recorded the final five outs to earn the save.
Garret Roggy went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored and Keian Secrist was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Lightning.
Kimm had a hit and drove in a run, Luke Meyers had an RBI and Cody Schroeder tripled and scored for Liberty High in the opener.
In the nightcap Noah Kirk led a 10-hit Liberty High attack going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
Schroeder went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, Kimm was 2-for-3 with three runs and Jack Funke was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Brody Fishman had a hit and scored a run, Secrist drove in a run and Evan Chandler had a hit.
Shane Alberts earned the win in relief while Jack Turgasen worked a scoreless seventh inning striking out two to earn the save.
