Girls Soccer Roundup: No. 5 Clear Creek Amana Rallies to Remain Unbeaten With OT Win at sixth-ranked Mount Vernon

The best start to a season in program history got even better for the Clear Creek Amana soccer team on Thursday.
Class 2A fifth-ranked Clear Creek Amana rallied from an early 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 double overtime win over sixth-ranked and previously unbeaten Mount Vernon in a WAMAC Conference thriller in Mount Vernon.
The Clippers improved to 11-0 on the season and 10-0 in conference play with the win while Mount Vernon dropped to 11-1 and 8-1 in WAMAC action.
Mount Vernon took a 2-0 lead in the opening four minutes of the match but Clear Creek Amana drew within striking distance when Eliza Evans scored with 10 minutes left in the opening half to cut the margin to 2-1.
Lauren Riggle tied the match at 2-2 with her team-leading 18th goal of the season in the second half.
Riggle converted the game-winner in the second overtime off a feed from Ellen Austin as Clear Creek Amana capped its first ever win over a top-10 ranked Class 2A opponent.
Emma Schmidt and Syd Bowers combined to make nine saves in goal while holding a Mount Vernon squad that entered averaging seven goals per game to just a pair of early goals.
Clear Creek Amana returns to action on Tuesday hosting South Tama (1-8).
