Girls Track and Field Roundup: Gahan Leads Regina at River Valley Conference Meet

The final River Valley Conference meet for Annie Gahan was as productive as it was busy for the Regina senior standout.
Gahan posted a pair of individual top-four finishes and anchored two Regina relay teams to runner-up finishes as the Regals placed seventh at the 14-team River Valley Conference meet on Thursday at Anamosa High School.
Two-time defending 2A state champion Mid-Prairie won the team title with 136 points while Northeast was second with 90.5 and North Cedar was third with 69 points.
The next five teams were separated by just five points in a balanced meet as Tipton finished fourth with 59, Monticello fifth with 58.5 and Bellevue sixth with 56 and Regina seventh with 55.
West Branch was 10th with 32 points.
Gahan placed third in the 100 hurdles and added a fourth-place finish in the 400 hurdles on Thursday.
The Regina senior anchored the shuttle hurdle relay team of Peyton Naeve, Abby Clark and Emma Sueppel to a runner-up finish in 1:09.69 and joined Naeve, Clark and Berlyn O’Connor on the 4×400 squad that was second in 4:20.71.
Senior Annalee Bartels was fourth in the 3,000 and seventh in the 1,500 for Regina while O’Connor was fifth in the 800.
Sasha Koenig led West Branch with a third-place finish in the long jump while Allie Laschanzky was fifth in both the shot put and the discus.
