Over the course of an impressive prep career Audrey Koch has continued to improve.
The West High senior increased her offensive output each of the past four seasons while remaining one of the most efficient scorers in the state.
All of that improvement didn’t go unnoticed.
A three-time all-state selection by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association, Koch earned first-team honors for the first time on Monday when the IGCA announced its 2020-2021 all-state squads.
Koch was a third-team Class 5A all-state selection by the IGCA as a sophomore and earned second-team honors last season before being named to the Class 5A first team following a stellar senior season.
A Providence recruit, Koch ranked eighth in Class 5A in scoring averaging a career-high 19.1 points per game while helping West High to a 14-4 record and the Class 5A semifinals.
Koch averaged 16.3 points as a sophomore and 18.5 points per game last season but was at her best as a senior, leading the Trojans in scoring for a third consecutive season while shooting a career-best 58 percent from the floor.
The 5-foot-10 Koch ranked seventh in 5A in field goal percentage and added 5.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and a career-high 2.3 steals per game.
West High senior point guard Matayia Tellis joined Koch on the 5A all-state team, earning second-team honors.
A first-time all-state selection, Tellis averaged 11.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and a team-high 2.6 steals per game.
Tellis was at her best at the state tournament averaging 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two assists per game in a pair of games at state while being named to the 5A all-tournament team.
City High sophomore Kelsey Joens was also a second-team selection in Class 5A, earning all-state honors for the first time after a breakthrough season in which she ranked sixth in 5A in scoring at 19.3 points per game.
The 5-foot-10 Joens added 5.6 rebounds per game and led City High with 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game helping the Little Hawks to a 10-5 record.
