Solon Advances to Substate Final With Win Over Oskaloosa

Solon will get an opportunity to return to the state tournament, the Spartans made sure of that on Monday.
Lucas Walker tossed six strong innings and as Solon rallied for a 3-2 win over top-seeded Oskaloosa (22-11) in the Class 3A, District 12 title game in Oskaloosa.
Solon (22-17) advanced to the Substate 6 title game where it will face fourth-ranked Marion (31-5) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Marion.
Marion advanced with a 12-6 win over South Tama on Monday.
Solon overcame an early 2-0 deficit, scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Ryan Geistkemper.
After allowing two runs on three hits in the first inning Walker allowed just one hit over the next five innings as Solon scored three unanswered runs.
Cam Miller struck out the side in the seventh to secure the win.
Trailing 2-0 Solon evened the score with a two-run fourth inning that featured a leadoff walk to Chris McSweeney and a double by Jackson Pipolo.
Miller added a hit for Solon as the two teams combined for just seven hits in the game.
Solon will be seeking a second consecutive state tournament trip on Wednesday at Marion.
The Indians defeated Solon 4-3 in nine innings in a substate final in 2017 and swept Solon in a doubleheader last month winning the opener 3-2 and the nightcap 5-0.
