Baseball Roundup: West High Stretches Win Streak to Eight With Senior Night Sweep

West High continued to roll through Mississippi Valley Conference foes with a doubleheader sweep of Cedar Falls Monday on senior night in Iowa City.
Class 4A second-ranked West High won the opener 13-3 and took the nightcap 7-1 to stretch its winning streak to eight straight.
West High has won 14 of its last 15 games and improved to 28-6 on the season and 22-6 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.
Owen McAreavy went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to lead West High in game one as the Trojans broke open a tie game with a 10-run sixth inning.
Casey Marvin had two hits, drove in two runs and earned the win allowing two runs on one hit in two innings of relief.
Nick Fleckenstein went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Nick Biancuzzo had two hits and drove in two runs and Jason Strunk doubled and knocked in two runs.
Ryan Cooper went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Trojans.
Alex Swack picked up the win in game two yielding just two hits and striking out six in five shutout innings.
Strunk went 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs and three RBI and Marcus Morgan had two hits and drove in three runs for the Trojans.
McAreavy had a hit and drove in a run while Cooper had two hits and Biancuzzo had a hit and scored a run.

Liberty High Sweeps Waterloo East
Liberty High had 23 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Waterloo East on Monday at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.
The Lightning won the opener 13-3 and took the nightcap 7-1 to improve to 17-15 on the season and 12-12 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.
Waterloo East dropped to 1-35 on the season and 0-26 in MVC play.
Senior Isaiah Pihl picked up the win for Liberty High in the opener allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out three.
Cody Schroeder and Nolan Frey each had two hits to lead the Lightning while Jacob Norris had a hit and drove in two runs.
Frey had a double and two triples and drove in a run while Cayden Duhaime had a hit and scored twice.
Schroeder earned the win in the nightcap allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out five in five innings.
Frey and Keian Secrist each had two hits in game two while Alec Boldt was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs.
TJ Kimm and Jack Kinzer each went 2-for-3 while Kinzer had an RBI and Frey scored two runs.
Isaac Bender, Frey and Secrist all drove in a run.

Central DeWitt Takes Two From Clear Creek Amana
Class 3A Central DeWitt swept Clear Creek Amana in a WAMAC Conference cross-divisional doubleheader on Monday winning both games 6-3 in DeWitt.
Central DeWitt improved to 28-1 on the season and 22-1 in WAMAC play while Clear Creek Amana dropped to 14-19 and 10-16 in WAMAC play.
Ben Swails took the loss for the Clippers in game one allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits while striking out two and walking two.
Parker Smith, Camden Smyka and TJ Bollers all had two hits for the Clippers in game one.
Bollers had a double and drove in two runs while Smyka had an RBI and scored a run and Casey Ogden and Tyler Schrepfer each scored a run.
Schrepfer took the loss in the nightcap allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings.
Grant Jensen and Swails each had two hits in game two while Schrepfer drove in two runs and scored a run.
Smith, Smyka and Brocke Reade all added hits in game two.

Dubuque Hempstead swept City High in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Monday at Mercer Park in Iowa City winning the opener 5-0 and taking the nightcap 8-3.
City High dropped to 21-10 and 15-11 in the MVC while Dubuque Hempstead improved to 21-12 and 17-11 in conference play.
Ry Threlkeld-Wiegand took the loss in game one allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five and walking four in five innings.
Liam McComas, Zach Kuepker, Carter Seaton and Kolbe Schnoebelen all had singles for City High in game one.
Garrett Bormann took the loss for City High in the nightcap allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings.
Noah Kabat went 2-for-3 for City High while Liam McComas was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Cade Hanrahan and Schnoebelen each had a hit and drove in a run.
