Softball Roundup: Strong Pitching Helps Liberty High Pick Up a Pair of Wins

Liberty High used a pair of strong pitching performances from Kinsley Robertson and Kara Maiers to pick up a pair of non-conference wins on Friday.
Maiers allowed just one hit in six shutout innings in an 8-0 win over Belle Plaine and Robertson allowed two hits in six shutout innings in a 3-2 win over Hudson as Liberty High improved to 18-17 on the season.
Hudson dropped to 15-16 and Belle Plaine moved to 22-8 on the year.
Maiers struck out four and walked four against Belle Plaine and Blythe Geiman worked a scoreless seventh inning in the win.
Brylee Klosterman went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI and Miranda Jones had two hits and drove in a run.
Malory Jones had two hits and scored twice and Ella McLaughlin had two hits and scored one run for the Lightning.
Raquel Trolliet doubled and drove in two runs while Tiffany Jones and Courtney Olson each had a hit and drove in a run.
Robertson struck out five and walked two in the win over Hudson.
Klosterman had two doubles and scored a run for Liberty High while Tiffany Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Miranda Jones had a hit and drove in a run.

Solon Drops Two at Ottumwa
Solon dropped a pair of games at the Ottumwa Classic on Friday falling to Class 5A No. 15 Southeast Polk 11-5 and 3A No. 7 Albia 4-3.
The Spartans dropped 21-15 with the losses.
Sarah Heick went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against Southeast Polk while Taylor Ryan tripled, scored a run and drove in a run.
Against Albia Taylor Moore was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs while Elyse Rios had a hit and drove in a run.
Ryan was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Hilary Wilson had a hit for the Spartans.
Kayla West took the loss allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out eight and walking one.
