Softball Roundup: City High Gets Back On Track With Sweep of Waterloo East

City High got back on track in a big way on Thursday.
Class 5A fifth-ranked City High bounced back from its first two losses of the season by hammering three home runs and pounding 23 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Waterloo East in Iowa City.
Brooke Bormann, Carey Koenig and Ayana Lindsey all homered in a 11-0 win in the opener and City High completed the sweep with a 12-0 win in game two while improving to 14-2 on the season and 12-2 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.
Waterloo East dropped to 3-19 on the year and 1-15 in MVC games.
Bormann and Lindsey each homered and drove in three runs in game one while Koenig went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI in the opener.
Sydney Fellows had two hits and drove in a run and Libby Frantz had a triple, an RBI and scored a run.
Lindsey picked up the win allowing just one hit and striking out five in a five-inning complete game.
Keli Potter drove in four runs in the nightcap while Lindsey, Koenig and Bormann all had two hits in game two.
Ella Cook and Alexz Fredericks each had a hit and drove in two runs in game two.
Cook earned the win allowing four hits and striking out four in four innings.

Bracken Leads Regina Past Monticello
Katie Bracken tossed a two-hit shutout and drove in all three runs to lead Regina to a 3-0 win over Monticello on Thursday in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Monticello.
Bracken struck out 14 and walked one in a complete game as Regina improved to 8-9 on the season and 6-2 in RVC play.
Monticello dropped to 6-9 on the year and 4-6 in conference play.
Lauren Marth and Courtney Kessler each had two hits for Regina but Bracken had the big hit with a three-run double in the fifth inning.
Carrigan O’Connor, Abby Clark and Hope Simpson all scored runs for Regina.
