Liberty High Sophomore Hartman Named to IGCA Elite All-State Squad

A unique regular season filled with obstacles was followed by an unforgettable postseason run loaded with memories for the Liberty High volleyball team.
The Lightning continued to be rewarded for its impressive play during both on Wednesday when the Iowa Girls Coaches Association released its 2020 all-state teams.
Liberty High had three players earn all-state honors following a 24-3 season in which the Lightning advanced to the Class 5A state title game for the first time in program history.
Sophomore Cassidy Hartman became the first player in Liberty High history to be named to the IGCA Elite team.
Hartman was a first-team all-state selection in Class 5A and named to the eight-member elite team that features the top players from all five classes.
The 6-foot sophomore led Liberty High with 338 kills while ranking fourth in Class 5A with 4.4 kills per set.
Hartman finished second on the team with 223 digs and had 32 blocks and 34 ace serves while helping the Liberty High to its second consecutive state tournament appearance.
It was at the state tournament where Hartman was at her best. She had at least 17 kills in all three state tournament matches including a career-high 35 in a semifinal win over top-ranked West Des Moines Dowling, on her way to being named to the 5A all-tournament team.
Hartman was joined on the Class 5A team by sophomore Shelby Kimm and senior setter Hailey Hested.
Kimm was named to the 5A second team after finishing second on the team to Hartman in kills with 194, including 15 in the state title match against Ankeny.
The 5-foot-11 Kimm tied for the team lead with 55 blocks and added 24 ace serves.
Hested was an honorable mention pick in Class 5A following a senior season in which she led Liberty High with 476 assists.
A four-year starter at setter, Hested added 143 digs and 22 ace serves as a senior.
Liberty High coach Randy Dolson was selected as the Class 5A coach of the year after leading Liberty High to the state runner-up finish.
Clear Creek Amana junior Calia Clubb was an honorable mention selection in Class 4A
Clubb led the Clippers with 243 kills as a junior and also 226 digs and 28 ace serves.
