The City High volleyball team had its season paused last week with the district starting the school year with online only classes.
Maya Morales used the time away from practices and matches to solidify her volleyball future.
Morales announced she would be playing collegiate volleyball at NAIA power Bellevue University in Nebraska on Thursday with a post on social media.
“I am beyond excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and volleyball career at Bellevue University,” Morales wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to my family, friends, coaches and everyone that helped me and supported me along the way.”
A senior libero for the Little Hawks, Morales is on her way to leading the team in digs for the second straight season this fall.
Morales ranked ninth in Class 5A in digs per set with 4.1 last season while leading City High with 322 digs.
The 5-foot-6 Morales had a team-high 79 digs and ranked second on the team with 10 ace serves in six matches this season for City High (2-4) and her 4.2 digs per set rank ninth in Class 5A.
Morales had a combined 345 in her first two varsity seasons while playing at West Liberty.
Located in Bellevue, Nebraska, Bellevue University is a member of the North Star Athletic Association.
